However, which other app conveys something of the fascination that has emanated from precision clocks equipped with a seconds pendulum for almost 200 years? For a long time, clocks whose pendulums performed exactly one half oscillation per second (and were thus about one meter long) were among the highlights of precision engineering and were the prerequisite for accurate time measurement in observatories and public institutions, as well as the working basis for watchmakers and factories.
Among the best clocks were the pendulum clocks of the Riefler company, which were developed by the engineer Sigmund Riefler towards the end of the 19th century and which were built with few modifications until 1965, when the age of atomic clocks ended the era of precision pendulum clocks.
Today, collectors pay prices for these watches, which were already valuable scientific instruments in the past, often in the high five-digit range.
